GrassRoots SAIV

How do we create change? Every one of us can be partners in ending traditions of violence by raising awareness to its prevalence and its cascade of tragic effects -- not only on those directly involved, but on us all. We can each use the articles, statistics, and other materials on this website to inform and enlist friends and colleagues. But we can do more.

A particularly important, and enjoyable, avenue for change is to bring together a local SAIV group in your community, organization, church, mosque, synagogue, peace group, or other venue.

The good news is that this is already happening spontaneously as local SAIV groups are springing up.

Each of these groups has been setting their own agendas for how to best bring visibility -- and action -- to ending intimate violence. They are bringing together representatives from government agencies (such as departments of social services, education, child protection) and civil society (religious groups, rape crisis hotlines, domestic violence shelters, schools) as well as interested individuals, including educators, business people, and social workers.
